Short-staffed Ohio State football sending All-American GA on recruiting trail: Buckeye Breakfast

COLUMBUS, Ohio — When James Laurinaitis returned to Ohio State football as a graduate assistant a year ago, it came with one drawback. The three-time All-American, eight-year NFL veteran and rising coaching talent could not go on the road to recruit. He can be, and has been, involved in long-distance recruiting efforts. Only the 10 countable coaches are allowed to visit recruits on their home turf by NCAA rule. For the moment, though, the Buckeyes have only nine countable coaches after parting ways with safeties coach Perry Eliano and special teams coordinator Parker Fleming. New safeties coach Matt Guerrier filled one road slot, and for now, Laurinaitis is filling the other. Over the weekend he visited 2024 linebacker commit Eli Lee with defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Jim Knowles and joined defensive passing game coordinator Tim Walton in the Cincinnati area.
