COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State football’s linebacker history going on five years now concerns highly ranked prospects eventually blocked by entrenched veterans. Ironton’s Reid Carrico became the latest example. He came to the Buckeyes as a top-100 prospect in the 2021 class, but never pushed through to a significant role. Carrico on Monday announced he will enter his name in the NCAA transfer portal. He concluded his Buckeye career with one tackle in nine games of action this season. The defense Jim Knowles installed prior to the 2022 season reduced the linebackers in the base scheme from three to two. Steele Chambers and Tommy Eichenberg established themselves as the starters — jobs they held for two seasons — with Cody Simon as the trusted backup.
