COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State football debuted at No. 1 in the season’s first College Football Playoff rankings and hovered at No. 2 going into the regular-season finale at Michigan. Selection Sunday arrives with as controversial a decision as a College Football Playoff selection committee has ever faced. It has nothing to do with the Buckeyes, though. Thanks to a loss in The Game, by Saturday afternoon of championship weekend they became an afterthought in the national conversation. The only drama for OSU concerns which bowl game will instead take a team likely missing several of its biggest stars. As with the Rose Bowl in 2021, those Buckeyes with the brightest NFL futures in the next few months will likely opt out to avoid the injury risk and begin training for their pro opportunities.
