What goals Ohio State coaches set in preseason performance reviews, and which ones they’ve met


COLUMBUS, Ohio — When filling out performance reviews for his defensive staff last June, Ohio State football coach Ryan Day asked for a “next step” on defense. That phrase showed up in the goals for both defensive coordinator Jim Knowles and Larry Johnson, defensive line coach and the most tenured assistant on the staff. The Buckeyes’ 2022 season hinged on allowing too many explosive touchdowns to keep up with Michigan and one too many to upset Georgia in the playoff semifinals.
