Michigan will begin one spot lower than where it finished in the College Football Playoff rankings last year, but behind its arch rival. The Wolverines, off to an 8-0 start despite plenty off-the-field controversy, was No. 3 in the first CFP rankings of the 2023 season, it was unveiled on Tuesday. Jim Harbaugh’s team trails arch rival Ohio State at No. 1 and defending back-to-back national champion Georgia, also 8-0, at No. 2. Newcomer Florida State, at 8-0, rounded out the top four. This marks the highest Michigan has debuted in the CFP rankings ever, matching their No. 3 start in 2016.
