Omaha hockey draws in series-opener with Ohio State

The opener of what could be called the Ted Carter hockey series between Omaha and Ohio State ended in a tie Friday night. The game finished in a 2-2 draw in front of 6,402 at Baxter Arena. The Buckeyes earned the extra point in the standings by winning a shootout following a scoreless five-minute overtime. Carter, president of the University of Nebraska System since 2020, is the incoming president at Ohio State. He dropped the ceremonial puck before the game. The Buckeyes opened the scoring with 8:04 left in the first period. Michael Gildon took a pass from behind the net and fired a shot past UNO past goalie Simon Latkoczy. The Mavs tied it two minutes later when Brock Bremer scored his first of the season. He redirected a shot by defenseman Griffin Ludtke past netminder Logan Terness.
