Ohio State football depth chart at Wisconsin: Young safety’s blitz potential breaking through


COLUMBUS, Ohio — Coming out of last season, Ohio State football had not locked in a particular position for Sonny Styles to make his own. Back in the spring, he played a lot of bandit — what OSU defensive coordinator Jim Knowles calls the traditional strong safety spot. When preseason camp opened and Styles joined the first-team defense, he had moved up to nickel. Knowles keeps trying to utilize one advantage of playing Styles that close to the ball. On several occasions this season he has brought him on blitzes, either alone or in tandem with mike linebacker Tommy Eichenberg. One of those blitzes finally got home last Saturday when Styles used the reach and power of his 6-foot-4, 230-pound frame to pull down Penn State quarterback Drew Allar — all 6-5, 242 pounds of him — for his first career sack. “It’s definitely a factor,” Knowles said…
