How long will Ohio State football be without Denzel Burke?


COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State football coach Ryan Day sounded optimistic that starting cornerback Denzel Burke’s absence will not be a long one. Burke did not play in Saturday’s 20-12 victory over Penn State after being listed as out on thepregame status report. He suffered an unspecified injury — which appeared to be a lower-body issue — in the second half of the previous week’s win at Purdue. “It was close this week,” Day said. “So we’re hopeful to get him back from practice next week. And if he has a full week of practice, he’ll be ready to go.” Jordan Hancock started at outside cornerback in Burke’s place, and freshman Jermaine Mathews played extensively as well. He recoded three tackles and a pass breakup. “I thought Jermaine Matthews played a big-time game for a freshman having to step up without having Denzel in there,” Day said. “That was big.”…
