Ohio State makes improvements in win over Purdue, but how many are replicable? Andrew Gillis observations


COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State put a beating on Purdue 41-7 on Saturday in a game that was put away quickly in nearly every facet of the game. Here are some observations from the afternoon in West Lafayette: 1. Playing ahead of the chains, and on the scoreboard, made all the difference Ohio State, in a change of pace from the last few weeks, was excellent on third downs (8 of 13) and in the red zone (5 of 6). The Buckeyes stayed ahead of the chains throughout the day, and more importantly, got ahead on the scoreboard early and put the pedal down. In previous weeks, Ohio State’s offense hadn’t run the ball effectively enough to both run the offense as it was designed, as well as get itself out of self-created holes.
