WEST LAFAYETTE, Indiana — From the outside, any role Dallan Hayden could play in Saturday’s game against Purdue felt, at absolute best, minimal. On Tuesday, Ohio State coach Ryan Day said that the intention for the team was to redshirt Hayden this season and preserve a year of eligibility. At the time, it made sense. Hayden sat firmly on the depth chart as the team’s fourth running back, and the odds that he’d be needed in-game felt, again, minimal. Then Saturday morning rolled around. TreVeyon Henderson was not ready to return from an injury. Miyan Williams was added to the unavailability report. And in the second quarter, Chip Trayanum, took a big hit up high and had to leave the game. Suddenly down to their fourth-string running back, who just five days ago appeared well on his way to a redshirt, the Buckeyes needed a spark. And Hayden provided one.…
