Two of the biggest brands in college football sized each other up in the first quarter as No. 6 Ohio State and No. 9 Notre Dame entered the second frame scoreless in their primetime showdown. Both teams found some offensive success on their opening possessions but came away without points as the defenses bent without breaking. Each quarterback relied heavily on their tight ends. Ohio State’s Cade Stover made a couple of grabs for first downs, but not to be outdone, Notre Dame tight end Mitchell Evans recorded four catches for 38 yards, including a stunning one-handed grab for a first down. The programs began this series last season with Ohio State holding serve at home in a 21-10 victory during Marcus Freeman’s head coaching debut at Notre Dame.
