COLUMBUS, Ohio — The quarterback originally scheduled to compete for Ohio State football’s starting quarterback job this season is one accomplishment ahead of the two who actually did. Quinn Ewers secured a bona fide signature win at Alabama on Saturday. The top-ranked quarterback in the 2022 class — who reclassified to 2021 and enrolled at OSU early, then transferred to Texas — led the Longhorns to a 34-24 victory. Texas jumped up seven spots in the AP Top 25 poll to No. 4 and picked up a huge resume booster for an eventual College Football Playoff case. Just as Florida State’s Jordan Travis did a week earlier, Ewers also pulled off the kind of victory of which Heisman Trophy voters take notice.
