What does a 45-6 record (31-2 in conference play) get you these days? Apparently a warm seat verging on hot, if you are Ohio State football coach Ryan Day. Fans are debating Day’s job security after comments made on ESPN Cleveland radio by commentator Paul Finebaum. Alluding to Day’s 1-2 record against Ohio State football’s biggest rival, Finebaum put it succinctly: “You have to beat Michigan, if you want to continue successfully as the Ohio State head coach.” Day and the Buckeyes have lost two straight to Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines, to some, a worrying sign. It also doesn’t help that Day has not taken Ohio State football to the College Football Playoff National Championship since 2021. For the city of Columbus, those two marks against Day loom largely.
