Local media has picked Michigan football to win the Big Ten over Ohio State in recent years, but Monday marked the first time national voters perceived Michigan as superior in more than a decade. The preseason Associated Press (AP) top-25 poll was announced and Michigan was ranked second; Ohio State was third. It is the first time the Wolverines are ranked ahead of the Buckeyes in the preseason poll since before the 2012 season. It’s no surprise, considering how the teams have finished the past couple of years. Michigan ended a 10-year drought against its rival in 2021 and followed it up with another lopsided win last season. Both victories put the Wolverines in the Big Ten championship game — which they won — and helped them earn a spot in the College Football Playoff. Ohio State was good, but not quite as good.
