Oller's Second Thoughts: Ohio State ranked No. 3 in AP poll, but O-line raises concerns

The Associated Press football rankings may not be super meaningful, but they are not meaningless. The poll, created in 1936, at minimum serves as a mental influencer wielding power of suggestion over the “official” College Football Playoff rankings that arrive Oct. 31. Human nature being of copycat nature, the CFP selection committee can claim all it wants that it creates its rankings from scratch, but we know better. The AP poll offers a starting point the committee at least looks at before releasing the initial rankings. To that end, the first AP rankings came out Monday, with Ohio State sitting in the No. 3 spot, behind No. 1 Georgia and No. 2 Michigan. Perennial power Alabama is No. 4, and LSU rounds out the top five. Are the Buckeyes picked too high? Too low? Just right?
