Ohio State is a week closer to starting its 2023 football season. The Buckeyes are six practices into their 24-practice fall camp prior to their season-opening game against Indiana Sept. 2 in Bloomington. Ohio State coach Ryan Day is scheduled to hold a press conference Wednesday at 11:30 ahead of the 2023 opener.
Earlier Wednesday, Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith announced that he would be retiring on June 30, 2024. He is the longest-tenured athletic director in the Big Ten, and the third-longest tenured athletic director in Ohio State history. Ohio State comes into the 2023 season as the No. 4 team in the country according to the USA TODAY Sports AFCA coaches’ poll, one of four Big Ten teams in the top 25 along with No. 2 Michigan, No. 7 Penn State, and No. 21 Wisconsin.
