While Ohio State was picked to finish behind Michigan in the Big Ten East division according to Cleveland.com’s annual media poll, ESPN still has the Buckeyes as the favorite to not only win the league, but win a national championship. According to ESPN’s college football power index ahead of the 2023 season, Ohio State has a 36.7% chance of winning the national championship, 16.3 percentage points better than any other program. Alabama (20.4%) and Georgia (19.1%) are the two other teams with better than a 10% chance at winning a national title. The next-best Big Ten team behind Ohio State is Michigan at 3.9%. Per ESPN, Ohio State has an 82.2% chance of making the College Football Playoff and a 57.2% chance of making the national championship game.
