Will Ohio State football Jack around in 2023, or put the position on ice? Hey, Nathan!


COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State football hired Jim Knowles to apply his proven system and principles to a defense in need of a makeover. That included the Jack — the defensive end/linebacker hybrid that played a central role in Oklahoma State’s accomplished defense under Knowles in 2021. The Buckeyes tried it out last season, with second-year defensive end Jack Sawyer and now-departed Javontae Jean-Baptiste handling the role. Results were mixed, and Knowles admitted it might not have been the best fit for this roster — at least for now.
