Ohio State Athletics has named their 2022-23 Athletes of the Year. Ohio State women’s hockey defenseman Sophie Jaques and men’s tennis doubles champion James Trotter were named as the Buckeyes’ 2022-23 Athletes of the Year Wednesday. Both will be placed on ballots for Big Ten Athlete of the Year, which will be announced in late June. Jaques, who won Ohio State’s Female Athlete of the Year in 2022, became the first Buckeye and the second-ever defenseman to win the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award, which is given to the top player in NCAA Division 1 women’s hockey. Jaques, also named the WCHA Player of the Year and Defender of the Year, scored a team-high 24 goals along with 24 assist to finish second on the team with 48 points.
