COLUMBUS, Ohio — Few things are as predictable in college football as Ohio State’s presence in the Associated Press Top 25 poll. The Buckeyes have been ranked to open the season for 34 consecutive years. Starting with the national championship season of 2002, they have finished outside the final top 20 only once. In the post-Tattoogate 2011 season, OSU opened the season at No. 18, peaked at 15, but finished 6-7 and unranked. Ohio State is once again considered a strong playoff contender, even if it will need to fight off Michigan to merely win the Big Ten East.
