Network says Brown suffered a medical emergency while at work Staff reports | The Columbus Dispatch Former Ohio State pitcher and 2003 team captain Kyle Brown died following a medical emergency Saturday. The 42-year-old was working as a director for ESPN at the NCAA baseball super regional in Winston Salem, North Carolina. Brown won two Sports Emmy Awards during his 16 years at the network, all while living out his long-held dream of being in television. Brown was a Washington Court House native, and he played football and basketball there before focusing on pitching at OSU. In 2003, he told the school’s website that he started working with ABC and ESPN during his freshman year when they televised games in Columbus. “When Dick Vitale came into town I was pretty much his chauffeur for the day,” he recalled.
