COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — The Ohio State University Emergency Management accidentally sent out a message about an active attacker on campus Friday afternoon. OSU police posted on social media at 1:36 p.m. that a test of the Ohio State Buckeye Alert system was being conducted. At 2:06 p.m. they tweeted that an active attacker was on/near campus and people should secure in place. At 2:13 the OSU police tweeted out that there was no emergency on campus and while undergoing system maintenance the safety vendor accidentally activated the system. OSU sent the following statement to ABC 6/FOX 28: “We are aware of the errant Buckeye Alert messages sent this afternoon. There is NOT an active threat or emergency. The system is undergoing maintenance and public safety personnel are working to fix the issue.”
