What Devin Brown’s injury means for Kyle McCord and Ohio State football’s quarterback competition

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State football’s long-anticipated spring game face-off between Kyle McCord and Devin Brown hit a snag this week. © Nathan Baird/cleveland.com/TNS Ohio State football’s Devin Brown (left) and Kyle McCord are competing to be Ohio State’s starting quarterback in 2023. They met with reporters at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center on March 7, 2023. Or, as Brown called it a Twitter post, a “minor speed bump.” The second-year quarterback will not play in Saturday’s scrimmage after undergoing what coach Ryan Day called a medical procedure to a finger on his throwing hand. Brown played the entirety of last Friday’s practice, which reporters were allowed to watch. The only other practice between then and Wednesday morning happened on Monday.
