Is Ohio State football’s Carnell Tate making a spring push for fall playing time?


COLUMBUS, Ohio — Even by the high-achieving standards of the Ohio State football receiver room, Carnell Tate is ahead of schedule. The Chicago native came through Florida prep power IMG Academy to arrive in Columbus over the winter. By the fifth spring practice, he no longer had a black helmet stripe — an accelerated timeline for any true freshman to achieve “official” Buckeye status. By Saturday’s practice, he was running with the first string offense extensively. The spring absence of returning starters Emeka Egbuka and Julian Fleming opened up extra snaps for all of the young receivers. None has capitalized better than Tate.
