Ohio State’s Josh Fryar found confidence and outside motivation to become the Buckeyes’ next left tackle

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Somewhere along the way — through a pandemic, a torn ACL and a lower vantage point on the depth chart — Ohio State football’s Josh Fryar found his confidence. Not in one eureka moment, though. Fryar assembled it over time. Found a little when he started working in with the first string before his injury. Found a lot last season when the Buckeyes gave him a functional role as the sixth offensive lineman. “I’d get nervous every single time for practice my freshman and sophomore years,” Fryar said, “but now I look forward to practice.” Based on the trust earned last season — and with Paris Johnson Jr. and Dawand Jones headed for the NFL — Fryar projected as a likely starting tackle this fall.
