COLUMBUS, Ohio — New Ohio State football quarterback Tristan Gebbia said last November he was eager to begin his coaching career. His 2023 season with the Buckeyes can be a step in that direction. The former Nebraska and Oregon State quarterback may serve as a teaching assistant of sorts during the looming starting quarterback competition between Kyle McCord and Devin Brown. He was respected enough that the Beavers made him a team captain last season. Yet he also provides some needed insurance. Ohio State coach Ryan Day has long stated his preference for four scholarship quarterbacks. Such a room is not easily assembled in the modern game. Day briefly put that arrangement together in 2021, with C.J. Stroud, McCord, Jack Miller III and Quinn Ewers.
