Ohio State football winning big-play battle behind C.J. Stroud’s vertical passing attack


COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State football decided to try something new to pile up points in its 77-21 victory over Toledo on Saturday night. The Buckeyes had been a big-play scoring offense through the first two games, with six of their nine touchdowns coming beyond the red zone. Against the Rockets, nine of OSU’s 11 touchdowns came on snaps from the Toledo 20 or closer. The perfect 9 of 9 performance raised the season ratio to 12 touchdowns on 13 red-zone possessions. CJ. Stroud, named by OSU as Saturday’s offensive player of the game, dialed up 367 passing yards with five touchdowns and no interceptions on 22 of 27 passing Toledo. Uncharacteristically, at least by 2022 standards, the five touchdowns covered a total of 38 yards.
