COLUMBUS, Ohio — Jim Knowles walked off the Ohio Stadium field a winner for the first time, his left arm raised and his right arm shouldering a black leather bag. The fans cheering his way were happy, they were exultant, they were relieved. Most of all, they were thrilled that Ohio State’s decision to rebrand itself after an offseason of tumult had paid off. This 21-10, tug-of-war-like victory over Notre Dame was unrecognizable to most of this sold-out crowd. It was the result of a hard offseason of this program looking itself in the mirror, not loving everything that reflected back and deciding to roll up its sleeves and do something about it.
