Ohio State will need $13 million in NIL money to keep its roster intact, Buckeyes football coach Ryan Day told members of the Columbus business community Thursday, according to a report by Cleveland.com. Day and Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith reportedly told the roughly 100 attendees that the school is competing with major programs that are directly paying recruits through name, image and likeness, putting the Buckeyes at risk of having key players plucked from their roster by other teams. Direct payments from universities aren’t technically allowed by the NCAA, but the rules are not being enforced, Smith said. “Unscrupulous characters are good at what they do, and it’s always been that way,” Smith said, according to Cleveland.com. Day said he believes top-shelf quarterbacks require $2 million in NIL money and major offensive tackles and edge rushers need about $1 million. Some schools won’t be able to keep up…
