COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State football’s Spring Game will feature an offense vs. defense scoring format on Saturday. More notably, most of the annual scrimmage will feature full tackling. Buckeyes coach Ryan Day said the game would begin with “thud” contact before moving to full tackling for the majority of the game. Ohio State limited itself to only “thud” tempo for last spring’s game. Perhaps coincidentally, OSU struggled defensively in the fall. However, Day said that was not a factor in deciding to tackle on Saturday. “Year in and year out, you look at your team and try to figure out who who needs to tackle who needs to play — who needs to get a feel for playing in the stadium,” Day said. “And then also what’s your depth? “How many (healthy) guys do you have?
