No. 1 Ohio State women's hockey team tops Yale, advances to national championship game

Staff reports  |  The Columbus Dispatch The top-ranked Ohio State women’s hockey team advanced to the national championship game with a 2-1 victory over fifth-seeded Yale in an NCAA semifinal at Penn State on Friday. The Buckeyes will face Minnesota Duluth in the championship at 4 p.m. Sunday. Minnesota Duluth topped Northeastern 2-1 in two overtimes on Friday. Yale scored first, but the Buckeyes scored twice in the second period. Paetyn Levis evened it at 1-1 before Jennifer Gardiner put Ohio State ahead 2-1. Ohio State outshout Yale 29-17, and Buckeyes goaltender Amanda Thiele made 16 saves. Yale goaltender Gianna Meloni made 27 saves. This is the fourth time Ohio State reached the Frozen Four, but the first time the Buckeyes reached the championship game.
