Memphis hires Ohio State football assistant Matt Barnes as defensive coordinator

Ohio State football assistant coach Matt Barnes on Monday was named the new defensive coordinator at Memphis. The school confirmed the hiring in a news release. Multiple reports had been published late Saturday following the Buckeyes’ win over Utah in the Rose Bowl that Barnes had accepted the position, though he declined to speak with reporters when he walked out of the locker room following the game.
