Former Ohio State football player James Laurinaitis to join Notre Dame’s coaching staff


COLUMBUS, Ohio — Former Ohio State linebackers James Laurinaitis and Marcus Freeman are reuniting in South Bend as coaches at Notre Dame. Freeman was hired as the Irish’s next head coach after Brian Kelly left for LSU, and Laurinaitis will join his staff in a role that is yet to be determined. The two played together for the Buckeyes from 2005-08, helping the program to a 43-7 record during that span, including two trips to the BCS National Championship Game under Jim Tressel. This will serve as the first step in Laurinaitis’ coaching career after spending most of his post-playing days as a member of the media.
