MINNEAPOLIS — Three observations from Ohio State football’s 45-31 win over Minnesota in its season opener on Thursday. 1. C.J. Stroud went through his reads on a third and 12 before concluding that none of his options was open downfield. He took off, hoping to pick up a first down only to get flipped on his head, falling short of the marker. He’d spent most of the night standing upright making throws from the pocket — even if his accuracy was inconsistent — without worrying much about the Golden Gophers. Even though he didn’t keep OSU’s drive on that play, it was still significant.
