Former Ohio State quarterback Cardale Jones starting name, image and likeness agency for college athletes


COLUMBUS, Ohio — If the NCAA had allowed athletes to profit from their name, image and likeness during Cardale Jones’ career, Ohio State football’s national championship quarterback could have cashed in. After rising from third string to lead the Buckeyes to the 2014 national championship, Jones would likely have received numerous endorsement deals and other opportunities. Instead, like all players from his generation and those before, any such compensation would have been an NCAA violation. Now the door is open to college athletes benefiting financially from their status, and Jones wants to be their advisor. He is starting an agency called Ten Talents NIL. According to a press release, the agency will offer “management, legal counsel, marketing, and crisis communications expertise to student athletes.” Jones is joined in the venture by others with legal or marketing backgrounds, including David M. DeVillers, former U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio.…
