COLUMBUS, Ohio — Fittingly, the first Ohio State football commitment in the 2023 class helps stabilize a position in flux. Thompson’s Station (Tenn.) Independence tight end Ty Lockwood pledged to the Buckeyes on Thursday. As a four-star, top-150 prospect in the 247 Sports composite, he becomes the highest-rated OSU tight end commitment since Jeremy Ruckert in 2018. That is important, because Ohio State badly needs another Ruckert who can get on the field quickly and make a sustained impact. Tight end can be a tough sell at Ohio State. The receiver room is so loaded that the chances of being featured as a passing asset are basically non-existent.
