COLUMBUS, Ohio — Larry Johnson has always prided himself on depth in Ohio State football’s defensive line room. His approach is to accumulate talent, develop it then put as much of it on the field as possible. He avoids player fatigue by rotating that depth throughout a game, allowing players to remain fresh. Opposing offensive linemen — who must stay together as a unit — wear down throughout a 60-minute game. The 2020 season was a perfect example, as the Buckeyes rotated five defensive ends. Jonathon Cooper is the only one who has moved on, but losing Tyler Friday to an unspecified injury puts a dent in that depth. “We lost Tyler Friday, and that’s making it tough,” Johnson said. “I thought we had four ends returning. … We’re not there yet.
