Whereas USC regularly defeated Michigan in the Rose Bowl in the John McKay-John Robinson years, Ohio State got its licks in, too… but that made the Trojans’ wins over the Buckeyes even sweeter. Yes, Ohio State beat USC in O.J. Simpson’s last college football game, the massively hyped 1-versus-2 Rose Bowl which began the year of 1969. Yes, Ohio State smacked USC in the 1974 Rose Bowl, taking advantage of a Big Ten vote which vaulted the Buckeyes to Pasadena after they tied archrival Michigan, 10-10. Yet, while Ohio State punched USC in the teeth a few times, the Trojans rose to the occasion in the Rose Bowl during the McKay-Robinson era.
