COLUMBUS, Ohio — One of Ohio State basketball’s biggest non-conference games in the 2021-22 season will reportedly take them just up the road. The Buckeyes will play at Xavier on Nov. 18 as part of the annual Gavitt Tipoff Games showcase between the Big Ten and the Big East. “Xavier is a tremendous program with a rich history and passionate fan base,” OSU coach Chris Holtmann said in a news release. “Playing against a good, well-coached team in that environment early in the season will be great for our 2021-22 team.” The in-state teams have played only four times previously. Ohio State won games at Xavier in 1932-33 and 1934-35. No. 1 seed OSU beat Xavier 78-71 in overtime in the second round of the 2007 NCAA Tournament en route to the national championship game.
