COLUMBUS, Ohio – Football recruits across the country grew more frustrated as their hopes of finally getting visits in took a sharp blow this week. After gathering for a Feb. 4 meeting, the NCAA Football Oversight Committee released a report Thursday summing up their recommendation regarding the extension of the recruiting dead period to May 31. The next meeting for the Division I Council is scheduled for Wednesday. However, there may be an alternative still on the table. The committee recently recommended the dead period give way to a “quiet period,” which would allow recruits to conduct their visits with certain limitations from April 16-June 30. The NCAA defines the quiet period as a time when a college coach may not have face-to-face contact with a recruited student-athlete or their parents off the college campus.
