Women’s hockey: No. 4 Ohio State overwhelms second-ranked Gophers

After playing some of their best hockey of the year against top-ranked Wisconsin last weekend, the Gophers women played some of their worst Friday at Ridder Arena. With the regular-season winding down the nation’s best teams trying to improve their NCAA tournament resumes, second-ranked Minnesota was thoroughly outplayed by No. 4 Ohio State in a 2-1 loss. Emma Maltais and Paetyn Levis scored goals, and goaltender Andrea Braendli stopped 20 shots for the Buckeyes (10-5-0), who had been off since splitting a pair of games with Minnesota Jan. 29-30 in Columbus. Gophers coach Brad Frost pulled goaltender Makayla Pahl with a minute left, and Minnesota scored when Emily Brown tipped in a shot by Amy Potamak with 50 seconds left.
