COLUMBUS, Ohio — USC and Texas are showing some life on the recruiting trail, which means Ohio State may soon have to find a new area of opportunity. It’s a formula the Buckeyes have successfully adapted over the past decade to help build recruiting classes consistently ranked inside the top five. The Longhorns have long been a victim, as OSU has brought in seven players rated as five-stars since 2017. The success in California is more recent and ranges from five-stars such as Wyatt Davis in 2017 to hidden gem Chris Olave in 2018. The 2020 class brought C.J. Stroud, the perceived leader in the battle to be the next quarterback. Stroud was among California’s three top-ranked quarterbacks, and all chose to come east.
