COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State football turned to an alum to fill a crucial player support role. According to the OSU employee directory, C.J. Barnett has been hired as director of player development and external affairs. The former Buckeye safety has most recently been employed as a Columbus Police Department officer. Buckeye Scoop first reported the hire. Barnett fills the role vacated when Ryan Stamper left to join Urban Meyer’s first coaching staff with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Barnett played for the Buckeyes from 2009-13 and was a three-year starter in the secondary. Over those three seasons he totaled 215 tackles with 12 passes defended and four interceptions. The director of player development role assists players with a variety of non-football concerns, such as academics, career paths and off-field issues.
