Ohio State’s Justin Fields keeps Buckeye tradition alive as 2020 Chicago Tribune Silver Football winner


COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields’ 2020 season suffered from the same abrupt stops and starts as every else’s during the coronavirus pandemic. It also, more often than not, was brilliant. From a near-perfect three-game start to leading with his legs when necessary, Fields’ talents sparked the Buckeyes’ fourth consecutive Big Ten championship. Fields was named winner of the 2020 Chicago Tribune Silver Football on Wednesday. The award has been presented annually since 1924 to the league’s best player. The award is decided by a vote of Big Ten coaches, who cannot vote for their own players. Fields received 12 of 13 possible first-place votes and one second. Iowa defensive tackle Davion Nixon finished second and received the other first-place vote, and Ohio State receiver Garrett Wilson also received a first-place vote.
