Ohio State football, Alabama reach national championship with Heisman-level starters and bright futures at quarterback


COLUMBUS, Ohio — The last time Ohio State football faced Alabama in 2014?s postseason, neither was known for producing elite NFL quarterbacks. The Buckeyes were home to J.T. Barrett, Cardale Jones and Braxton Miller. Jones was the third-stringer responsible for the Buckeyes’ only title in the playoff era and also the only one who’s ever taken an NFL snap as a quarterback. The Crimson Tide took Blake Sims – who played various spots in his college career — and turned him into a dual-threat quarterback. That Sugar Bowl made Nick Saban change his approach to quarterback development just as the 2016 loss to Clemson did for Urban Meyer.
