How Rutgers’ frontcourt depth without Cliff Omoruyi was challenged against Ohio State


Rutgers’ frontcourt depth was challenged in Wednesday’s loss to Ohio State. Not only were the No. 11 Scarlet Knights without freshman center Cliff Omoruyi, who was out with a knee sprain, but junior Myles Johnson was only on the floor for 15 minutes before fouling out. For a majority of the contest, Rutgers was without the two centers who, in the first six games of the season, played 96.6% of the minutes available at the position (232 out of 240 minutes, some of which they spent on the floor together). The results were not ideal. Head coach Steve Pikiell was forced to turn to reserve center Mamadou Doucoure for a season-high 21 minutes, the most time Doucoure played in a game since Rutgers faced the Buckeyes in Value City Arena three seasons ago in February 2018.
