COLUMBUS, Ohio — For the first time since 2017, Ohio State will not be represented among the Heisman Trophy finalists. Buckeyes quarterback Justin Fields finished only seventh in the Heisman Trophy voting and was not among the top vote-getters who qualified as finalists. Alabama receiver DeVonta Smith and quarterback Mac Jones, Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence and Florida quarterback Kyle Trask received the highest percentage of votes. Three of those players — Smith, Jones and Lawrence — stand between Ohio State and a potential national championship. The Buckeyes face Clemson in a Sugar Bowl playoff semifinal on Jan. 1. Alabama plays Notre Dame in the other semifinal at Dallas’ AT&T Stadium. All four of those players are finalists for the first time. The Heisman Trophy winner will be awarded Jan. 5 in a virtual ceremony. There is no trip to New York for an in-person ceremony due to the coronavirus pandemic.…
