Ohio State is not receiving the College Football Playoff red carpet treatment, and USC explains why


COLUMBUS, Ohio — Two traditional college powers take undefeated records into their respective conference championship games this weekend. Ohio State is a national championship contender. Ranked No. 4 throughout this month-long lead-up by the selection committee, the Buckeyes likely face a win-and-you’re-in scenario against No. 14 Northwestern on Saturday. Southern California is, for all intents and purposes, an afterthought. Stuck back at No. 13, it is difficult to imagine the chain reaction of upsets that would need to take place in order for the Trojans to jump all the way into semifinal position. From SEC country to within the Big Ten, some believe the College Football Playoff selection committee is rolling out the red carpet for Ohio State. They see a team which was only played five games — exactly half as many as the rest of the current top four in the rankings — and see deference to brand…
