CLEVELAND, Ohio — Tony Curcillo, an Elyria native who was Woody Hayes’ first starting quarterback at Ohio State died Tuesday near his home in Murrieta, California. He was 89. Curcillo played alongside 1950 Heisman Trophy winner Vic Janowicz at Elyria High and at OSU, where he participated in the infamous Snow Bowl game against Michigan and later went on to post record-setting performances under Hayes’ guidance. Prior to his passing, Curcillo was believed by his family to be the oldest living Buckeyes quarterback.
