What if the Ohio State-Michigan game isn’t played — and isn’t missed as much as expected? Doug Lesmerises


COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State football fans reacted this week with an abundance of reason and perspective when asked about the idea of missing out on The Game. Part of me appreciated the big-picture approach to college football’s greatest rivalry. In the midst of a global pandemic, even the most loyal OSU fans who are part of our Ohio State text subscription service weren’t obsessing over a game at a time when health and safety are priorities. The other part of me wondered if the rivalry was dead. Ohio State and Michigan have played 116 times, meeting for 102 straight years dating back to 1918. The Game is threatened now by a coronavirus outbreak at Michigan that forced the cancellation of the Wolverines’ game against Maryland this week. Ohio State canceled against Illinois last week because of its own outbreak but is on track to play Michigan State on Saturday.…
